We’ve got a lot of news to get to – a lot – so let skip the ado and get right to business, shall we?
It’s been a pretty darn good year for awesome Brit series “Primeval.” First, Warner Bros. options it for a big screen adaption and now it’s gotten the opportunity to continue on the small screen. Initially canceled by ITV due to financial constraints, BBC Worldwide takes over as the major money bags with BBC America and German company ProSieben as co-producers according to Variety. Impossible Pictures will produce around 13 episodes over two series to begin airing in 2011.
If you haven’t had enough of Milla Jovovich kicking undead ass, Screen Gems/Constantin Film has just announced that “Resident Evil: Afterlife” has started filming in Toronto, Canada. This, the fourth film in the franchise, will be in 3-D which could be awesome or cheesy depending on how it turns out. Joining Milla are RE vets Ali Larter as Claire Redfield and Spencer Locke as K-Mart along with first timers Shawn Roberts (taking over as Wesker), Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates, and, most interestingly, Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield. Paul W.S. Anderson returns as writer/producer and directs for the first time since the original. More info can be found on Coming Soon.
Independent studio E1 Entertainment has landed a big project – they’re teaming with Stephen King to turn his novella “The Colorado Kid” into a series called “Haven.” As most King stories, the hour-long show will take place in a small Maine town where people who are cursed are sent to live. When their personal plagues start acting up, FBI agent Audrey Parker must contain the forces at work while investigating the mysteries of the town. Much of the team who brought us six seasons of “The Dead Zone” on USA are on board for “Haven,” which E1 is committed to producing 13 episodes of. It’s unclear whether the show will be for ABC or another network.
For interested anime fans, the series “InuYasha” will finally get some closure as its last season – “InuYasha: The Final Act” – will begin streaming October 3rd while it airs in Japan. The subtitled episodes will stream on ShonenSunday.com/anime and Hulu.com with a new episode premiering every Saturday.
Splash News has some photos and footage of an action sequence being filmed for Seth Rogen’s stab at “The Green Hornet.” In it, there are clear shots of both the Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato in costume. It’s a tabloid website, fyi, so just try not to click on anything else if you abhor that stuff like me.
Speaking of GH, you can read an interview with Edward James Olmos over at Hero Complex on the Los Angeles Times site. Olmos’ character helps run The Sentinel, the newspaper owned by James Reid, father of GH’s alter ego Brit. He’s got some interesting things to say about the film.
Another emerald hued hero is about to start filming – they’re just not sure where. According to Inside Film, Warner Bros. might be moving Green Lantern from Australia to Mexico. Though there are other factors, the primary reason is to avoid inflating the budget by $20 million due to the exchange rate. The south-of-the-border shift may replace plans to move production to Louisiana but no decisions have been made. Go here for the more details.
The cast of “John Carter of Mars” keeps getting bigger and more awesome. Per Heat Vision, James Purefoy, Mark Strong and Thomas Haden Church have joined Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Polly Walker, and leads Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins. Purefoy is Kantos Kan, captain of Helium’s greatest warships; Strong plays Matai Shang, ruler of the Thems; Church is Tal Hajus, a Thark warrior with designs on the crown.

- Coming Soon has “Avatar,” Sam Worthington in “Clash of the Titans,” and “The A-Team“ pics up. Woot!…Michael Bay has announced July 1, 2011 as the release date for “Transformers 3” and includes a snippy P.S. to Megan Fox that can be read here. That gives us a little under two years to prepare for more roller coaster blue balls.
- Jaimie Alexander (“Kyle XY“) and Colm Feore (“24,” “The Chronicles of Riddick,” “Paycheck“) have both joined the cast of “Thor” – Alexander to play Asgardian warrior/love-of-Thor Sif (which is awesome) and Feore will play an as-yet-identified villian
- Variety reported that Guy Ritchie will direct the live-action version of DC’s “Lobo.” The PG-13 flick teams the Czarnian with a small-town teenage girl to stop four fugatvies he’s tracking. She better have powers, that’s all I’m saying.
- Columbia Pictures will release “Spider-Man 4 on IMAX May 5, 2011.
- Per Variety, Director/Producer Barry Sonnenfeld (“Pushing Daisies,” “Men In Black”) is working on a half-hour sitcom for ABC about a “harried mother who finds a special suit that gives her super powers.” Sounds promising.
- Per Variety, ABC has split the run of “V” into two chunks – four eps starting Nov. 3 and the remaining in March to avoid the Olympics and “American Idol.”
- Maggie Stiefvater’s “Shiver,” the first of trilogy about a werewolf-by-winter teen and his girlfriend who helps him uncover the secret to staying human, has been picked up by Unique Features according to Variety. Warner Bros. will get the first crack at it.
- Columbia Pics has picked up “Supermax“ – not to be confused with the Warner Bros. Green Arrow prison flick “Super Max” – about a supernatural maximum-security prison where a prison guard must team up with one of the inmates to survive a riot. All I know is they better rename it.
- Comlumbia’s also picked up the live-action “Masters of the Universe“ that’s been bouncing around the last couple years after Warner’s couldn’t cross a development crossroads. Despite a promising script that floated around, the project is starting from scratch.
- THR‘s Heat Vision has an interview with “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer.
