This Week In TV: Dec. 12 – Dec. 18, 2011

courtesy of TV

The end of the year tends to get light on new episodes so I’m taking this opportunity to list some less conventional offerings. Also: Hulu and Netflix suggestions!
Monday, Dec. 12th
6:30pm – X-Play [G4]
7pm – Attack of the Show [G4]
8pm – Terra Nova [FOX]
8pm – Adventure Time [Cartoon Ntwk] (Animated)
8pm – I Want A Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown [ABC] (Animated, Repeat)
This 2003 Peanuts special focuses on ReRun Van Pelt, Linus and Lucy’s younger brother, and his trip to the desert with Snoopy to hang out with Snoopy’s brother Spike.
8pm – The Towering Inferno [Fox Movie Channel] (Movie)
8:15pm – Regular Show [Cartoon Ntwk] (Animated)
8:30pm – MAD [Cartoon Ntwk] (Animated)
9pm – Stephen King’s Bag of Bones [A&E] (Mini-Series)
Part two of two. If you missed Part one, it airs at 7pm.
10pm – Hawaii Five-0 [CBS] (Mid-Season Finale)
A body is discovered in an old bunker while Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) gets married – so it’s one wedding and a funeral (sorry, I couldn’t help it). Guest stars Tom Sizemore.
10pm – Night Stalkers: Jaguar Ambush [National Geographic Wild]
An expert team of “night-filming specialist” lead by wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn venture into the jungles of Costa Rica. Also, this may have the best title of the week.
11:35pm – Late Show With David Letterman [CBS]
Scarlett Johansson stops by to talk about ‘We Bought A Zoo’ but I’m betting she’ll be asked about ‘Avengers’ too.
Netflix Spotlight: Red Dwarf
Seasons 1-9 of the British cult hit are available for streaming. Take this opportunity to brush up on what our friends across the pond have been geeking out over for years.
Tuesday, Dec. 13th
6:30pm – X-Play [G4]
7pm – Attack of the Show [G4]
7pm – The Cat in the Hat [ABC Family] (Animated)
There is one undeniable fact about the titular Cat: He’s kind of a douche.
8pm – Glee [FOX]
I’m fairly sure this is the episode that guest stars Chewbacca. No really. That’s really happening.
8pm – Planet Earth [Animal Planet] (Repeat)
This episode, focusing on mountain animals, kicks off a three-hour marathon of the series. “Ice Worlds” and “Fresh Water” follow.
9pm – New Girl [FOX]
Office party shenanigans! I do so love this show.
9pm – Knights of Mayhem [National Geographic]
There is a dude who calls himself the “Black Knight” – one of the doc’s “protagonist” faces him at the biggest jousting event of the year.
9pm – Underworld: Rise of the Lycans [Syfy] (Movie With Commercials)
9pm – WWE Tribute to the Troops [USA]
It’s for the troops…I can’t help but list it. Warning: Will contain a performance by Nickelback. But also Mary J. Blige so there’s a bright spot.
10pm – The Conan One Hour Earlier Best of Spectacular [TBS]
Missed some episodes of Coco? Then this special’s for you. Will probably include some of their spectacular DC Comics related bits (Bruce Timm helping design “The Flaming C,” discussing some peculiar D-list villains and heroes with an editor, etc.)
11pm – War Wolves [Syfy] (Movie With Commercials)
John Saxon stars as the head of a special ops group charged with hunting soldiers-turned-werewolves.
11pm- The Shining [IFC] (Movie With Commercials)
Like I mentioned last week, IFC’s not really one for editing content but they have been adding commercial breaks. I’m sure it won’t sully your enjoyment of the Jack Nicholson-lead classic.
12am – Jimmy Kimmel Live [ABC]
‘Lost’ star Josh Holloway promotes ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ and I’m betting he’ll look good while doing it.
Hulu Spotlight: The Incredible Hulk
Three whole seasons of the Bill Bixby classic are available for your viewing pleasure. Perhaps this can distract you until ‘Avengers’ comes out next year.

6:30pm – X-Play [G4]
7pm – Attack of the Show [G4]
7:30pm – X-Men Origins: Wolverine [FX] (Movie With Commercials)
What’s fun about watching this types of movies on FX is that, every once in awhile, it’s a version that includes cut scenes or alternate endings. This is such a version. If you don’t feel like watching the whole thing, just tune in around 9:45pm for end.
8pm – Hubble’s Amazing Universe [National Geographic] (Repeat)

8pm – Live From Lincoln Center [PBS]
“George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker” is performed by the New York City Ballet, their orchestra, and fifty youngsters from the School of American Ballet in New York. Good for the kids.

10pm – American Horror Story [FX]
The episode is simply titled “Birth.” And I’m already creeped out…

10pm – Strange Days [Fox Movie Channel] (Movie)
12am – Jimmy Kimmel Live [ABC]
Robert Downey, Jr. continues his ‘Sherlock Holmes: Book of Shadows’ press tour.
Hulu Spotlight: Remington Steele
Pearce Brosnan is awesome. This enjoyable show both helped propel him to star status and cost him his first chance at playing James Bond. But it all worked out for the best.

Superboy and Miss Martian go undercover at a metahuman prison and find more than they were expecting.
